THE PPL FLY!

THE PPL FLY! is an immersive, multidisciplinary fever-dream-play that conjures and complicates the Black American mythology of how we fly through a feminist, futurist lens. Developed in rooms across Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Flea Theater, and The Public Theater, the work has been moving through New York’s performance landscape, garnering collaborators, questions, and a kind of gravity along the way...

Akilah Sailers (she/her) is a Chicago-grown, Brooklyn-planted cultural worker. A graduate of NYU Tisch with a BFA in Drama and a focus in Black Performance Studies, she has performed on Broadway and beyond, collaborating under the leadership of renowned worldbuilders including Camille A. Brown, Bill T. Jones, George C. Wolfe, and Robert O’Hara. Her critical writing has been published in ESSENCE and other Black cultural platforms. THE PPL FLY! marks her debut as a co-producer, book writer, composer/lyricist, and a principal role.

The Creator
